The Goods

I had a long but hopeful day at work yesterday, finally getting to Yamada Denki at around 8pm to pick up the goods.

I was up early today to take a stroll and try it out. Here are some of my first shots, a non-authoritative example of the D80 and 18-200mm VR lens.

My first impressions using this camera is that I have a lot of habits to relearn and some to unlearn. For a few years now I have used a Canon G3, an excellent digicam. In fact, I didn't realise how good it was until testing the Powershot IS 2, which was released a few months ago. The G3 is far superior, with a faster lens (f2.0) and better metering. I usually got good results in program mode and it had a lot of options to take care of troublesome shots. Anyway, I had got used to it, hardly ever looking through the viewfinder to compose a shot -- I just used the very bright, effective LCD screen. With the D80 of course, being an SLR, you can't compose with the LCD. Duh. But habits are hard to break. And to think that before the G3 (and the excellent Konica Hexar before that) all I ever used was a Nikon F3 HP. I find it hard to believe that I have to rehabituate myself with an SLR...

But I am looking forward to it!
